Results Day: Everything you need to know about the future of work.

Results Day: Everything you need to know about the future of work.

From an AI recruitment platform.

Are you a parent whose child has just experienced Results Day? Maybe your child didn’t get the results they wanted. Or worse, maybe they got exactly what they wanted but you’re worried about the future of their careers in 3 years time?

Let me put your mind at ease.

As an older Gen Z, my results day was 2014. AI wasn’t on our radar, logging on to social media didn’t prompt me to discover the ample number of possibilities out there. And University, quite literally, felt like the only option worth choosing.

Fast forward to 2026 and things look fairly different.

Most can see more career prosects than ever before. The traditional University route is being questioned. Then there’s AI. Praised as the most beneficial tool but also seems to be slowly but surely coming to take our jobs.

One thing I can safely say, is, at Via (the AI-Hiring platform) we are fully committed to keep people in work.

Ironic?

Or is it…

AI doesn’t have to mean removing people from work.

There's an important distinction between using AI to replace human judgement and using AI to help humans make better, faster and fairer decisions.

Recruitment is actually a perfect example.

AI can help with repetitive administrative tasks and make hiring processes more efficient. But recruitment decisions affect real people and their livelihoods. That means organisations need to think seriously about fairness, transparency, accountability and human oversight.

The UK Government already has specific guidance on responsible AI in recruitment, warning organisations about risks including bias, discrimination and digital exclusion. It also stresses the importance of transparency, governance and effective human oversight.

In other words: using AI doesn't mean handing over the keys and letting an algorithm decide someone's future.

And this is particularly true at Via. We’re GDPR compliant and have built our platform with responsible hiring and data protection in mind from the start. We’ve passed the Fair Work Agency Audit and are an APSCo member, which means governance isn’t an afterthought for us. It’s something we take seriously.

And as AI becomes more embedded in recruitment, the rules and expectations around how it is used are only going to become more rigorous. We’re aware of that, we welcome it, and we’re building with that future in mind.

Because ultimately, our goal isn’t to use AI to take people out of work. It’s the opposite. We want to use technology responsibly to help more people find work, stay in work and access opportunities. While keeping people at the heart of hiring.

So, will AI take my child's job?

Some jobs will change. Some tasks will disappear. New ones will emerge.

And pretending otherwise isn't particularly helpful.

The UK Government's own 2026 research acknowledges that AI is likely to reshape the labour market, while there is still considerable uncertainty about exactly how those changes will play out.

But here's the part I think we sometimes miss.

Your child doesn't need to predict what the job market will look like in 2031.

They need to learn how to adapt to it.

The skills that become valuable in an AI-enabled workplace won't simply be "being good at AI". They'll include knowing when to use technology, when to question it and when a human needs to make the call.

And we're already seeing the focus shift towards preparing young people for exactly that world. In 2026, the Government announced new support for entry-level jobs alongside AI and technology training for hundreds of thousands of young people. See here

At Via, we believe technology should make it easier for people and opportunities to find each other not remove people from the equation.

So, whatever is written on that results sheet today, don't panic about trying to map out the next five years.

The jobs will change.

The technology will change.

Even their ambitions might change too.

And that's okay.

Results day is the beginning of a career conversation, not the conclusion of one.
